About PURI PROJECT Donation
http://www.oacc.cc/support-us/donations/puri5.html
The Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) is proud to present PURI 5 a multidisciplinary new work by renowned Korean percussion and voice artist Dohee Lee with performances by local and international musicians such as Van-Ahn Vanessa Vo (Dan Tranh and other instruments) and Hiroyuki Jimi Nakagawa (Taiko). PURI 5 will premiere at OACC in October 2010 and will be preceded by an artist talk led by Ms. Lee.
This is a fundraiser to support OACC’s programs and the over 25,000 community members, artists, local organizations and institutions who benefit from our services.
We hope you will join us as a supporter with a generous contribution towards the production of this performance.
This project was born from the shared stories of immigration and war histories through our experiences as Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean immigrants. After hearing other immigrant stories, it was really compelling to me to start thinking about the similarities; many immigrants moved here because they were witnesses to and victims of war such as the Vietnam War, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and 60 years of separation between South and North Korea. Those remain huge impacts on our lives. –Dohee Lee
The East Bay Community Foundation (EBCF) has awarded OACC with an East Bay Fund for Artists challenge grant of $5,000 to commission this performance, but we need to raise a one-to-one match from individual donors by February 19, 2010 in order to get the funds from the EBCF.
